aries rising/sun/moon :: 2 of swords // rosemary
light has recently been shed on some important aspects resonating from within - resolutions are now in order. you are entering into spaces of more comprehensive communication after a period of what felt like a stalemate aspect afflicting your most proximate connections. the lines of communication are becoming more fluid and directed at interacting from a more leveled playing field. realizations have come through to show that there is more to be gained from releasing ego-based attachments to attitudes, habits, and dispositions. swords/words that had been drawn are now either being exchanged amicably or have been laid to rest altogether - there are patterns in the ways of spoken and non-spoken communications that are no longer part of the method of operation; this is what we know to be growth. another important element in the 2 of swords at this time is idea of experiencing illumination or a brightening of the mind - this is evidenced through the appearance of rosemary on the ground, at the knee of the one who has laid his sword to rest. the truth that has shone forth is so brilliant and so clear that this man has had no choice but to shift his approach entirely and proceed forth with a frame of thinking more based on knowing what is true and real beyond the illusions of discord and soul separation. we have long ago been woven into a fabric quite intricate and interdependent. in this entire process there is the something about it that is so close to a commencement and initiation, so we can say that you have been afforded the opportunity to begin anew even with what already may feel so familiar.
to work more intimately with the power that is the 2 of swords, it is useful to move through our own inner landscape and find that place from which we can view things in a vaster perspective, especially in relation to the places where we have been wounded on an emotional level which sheds light upon causes of feelings of inadequacy which may occasionally - you are enough and more than that. be objective enough to see your own potential; objectivity is attunement to universal truth which can still be very personal - do not allow the words to confuse you. it is important to balance these moments with deep communion in your heart space; let the refinement happen as it may and stay alert for what surfaces within you. lessons abound on a large scale, so, ideally, you want to remain open to possibility and on the lookout for opportunities to really form a stronger community of support around you. it starts with you, and once you put an active calling for a certain life by way of your own vibration, it will all flow to you with ease. let your fire be brilliant and clarifying, instead of drying and consuming. you have all of the elements at your hands right now; use wisely.
tuning into other fire-energized spirits for reflection and in-sight, rosemary is a perfect companion for you. useful as a solar magick aid, rosemary is effective (on a physical level) for healing the brain, promoting strength of memory and general cognitive function. rosemary facilitates our efficiency in solar activities aka those activities which we are most likely to do by daylight - many of which demand a level of productivity and mobile activity from us. rosemary has an awakening and cleansing property, which when combined to deduce results you can see how rosemary is essential in processes of clearing the mind and, further, the heart. we formulated two formulas that work in a kind of balancing way - Keeper of the Flame (internal use) provides a warming yet still relaxing energy, while Ori Crown Oil no. 2 (external use) holds a more cooling property to guide you subtly into greater receptivity - both helping us be our sharpest selves.

taurus rising/sun/moon :: 3 of swords // ashwaghanda
we don’t always want to talk about, let alone deal with, grief, but we have to stay true to what memory awakens and, thus, calls us to. recognition is only the first step in the healing process. a lot of this moment is about forgiving yourself, first and foremost. a lot of the forgiving of self has to do with being gentle with yourself as you uncover the various ways in which you may have sabotaged your own well-being by ignoring your intuition regarding people, places, things. this is very real in your subconscious if you’re not immediately aware of how this process is affecting your daily living. tune deep in. there is a cry within you that is calling primarily on you. sometimes the best thing you can do, even after having acknowledged all of this, is take a step back and allow yourself to process - take a moment to discern what you should do with this information and act accordingly. it is important to remember to not wallow in what was and what could have been all the difference. deal with what is and find support for your strengthening work. if you can, go outside and breath deeply. take time to go to your nearest botanical garden or nature preserve. go there with your favorite book, healing crystal, jar of tea, or journal. go there with just yourself. however you do it, make it an intention to find spaces outside of the ones you have, up until now, confined yourself to. it is time to be new - your story is yours to write.
a very important factor for you is to remain aware of what is yours and what is not. when we truly soften to our inner truth, we naturally open. yet it is wise to remember to temper your frequency against ‘intrusion’ from the guilt, judgment, inadequacy, and pain of others. in your empathy, you must remain shielded with the sense of knowing - feeling can sometimes leave you too vulnerable. your creative power lends a hand here once you begin to tap into it more regularly, as this is how you are meant to transmute all that you are processing. our inner world is a changing place; some aspects of it do us more good when we release them in a way that harms none, especially not you.
the adaptability required from you at this moment is a fluid process when it has good reinforcement. adaptogens are fungi, food, and plants and plant parts that help us deal with stress and the shifting variables in our lives. adaptogens provide our nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, and even respiratory system with the boost that they need to function optimally. ashwaghanda is one such adaptogen. being a highly medicinal herb, it has long been used for reducing cortisol levels and thus facilitating the lowering of depression, stress, and anxiety. it has also been purported to be an anti-cancer herb that can be employed as a preventative measure. to enjoy the benefits of this root, you can make a decoction with it by bringing water to a boil and adding the root. then you lower the level of heat and allow the root to simmer in the water for about 45 minutes before removing from the heat source. sip a cup of this, two times a day. do not add sugar; if you would like to sweeten, we recommend honey, blackstrap molasses, or something less toxic than sugar. may this medicine heal your mind and heart.

gemini rising/sun/moon :: 6 of wands // goldenrod
allies are available to you in different forms and they come to sustain you through moments that feel more like a fight than a shift, but you are changing continually and so is your life. the 6 of wands depict a man stands in front of 5 other men, they all hold a wand/staff, yet the man in the front is the only one whose staff has the figure of a lion connected to it - this is about both fire and the energy of Leo. now, Leo has a very powerful energy for charging through what may appear to be difficulties and obstacles or setbacks upon the path. it is, after all, a fire sign and fire signs are known to be capable of cutting through into the essence of situations. Leo is also a highly creative energy, which can signal to the idea that your best movement for whatever you may be dealing with is to tune into your innovative capacity and come up with a new way to go about finding victory in your circumstances. you can take yourself there, but it is necessary to keep in mind that your main source of reflection and education at this time are the relationships to the people in your life. at this point in your evolution, you cannot remain in stagnant or lifeless connections. it could be that the idea of release in this regard has left you with some fear, but you are assured that this breakthrough will enable you to actually emerge into an unexpected gain.
the thing about the 6 of wands is that this card applies to the areas in our lives where we feel we have to work very hard to achieve something; it can be an external or internal thing or a combination of the two. it usually is the latter. this 6 of wands shows up to ourselves when we are at a point in life when we feel proud of ourselves for one reason or another, but still feel overwhelmed by the thought of an impending breakthrough and the steps that need to be taken to get there. often after a struggle, even if we ‘win’ in some sense, we can still feel confused or disoriented because of the energy that was exerted to get to this particular point and the need to ground ourselves, so that is exactly what this key calls you to do. you have all of the reference points that you need to do your best work and to do so with confidence. take time to pick up on the things that may have felt exceptionally difficult to do at a certain point and see if you now have the energy available to bring them to completion. go full-heartedly after the opportunities offered and remember to give thanks for all that has been given to you and the tools you are finding within yourself.
to commune with the forces in nature, we have the companionship of the plants. goldenrod is a sunny one that usually flowers at this time of the year. it is a plant good fortune and wealth, something that very well compliments the path you have set upon. it is also one that work with our respiratory system, helping to clear it and afford us better breathing and greater oxygen to our organs. due to its astringent qualities, it is not recommended for long term use, but i do encourage sipping a cup of it once a week, whenever you feel you need a boost in confidence and a reminder of the wealth and fortune that will continue to be yours as you remain in alignment with your own well-being.

cancer rising/sun/moon :: 5 of disks // white oak bark
during the previous moon cycle, the 5 of disks came to you to listen up for ways in which community could provide keys to moving out of whatever stagnancy may have been present. at this point, it comes to you again to urge you to be honest about the work that you have to do and end certain procrastination around doing it. these things could be very subtle, but when you analyze them in the scheme of your ongoing journey, they can certainly pose a threat to your overall security and balance. plenty of this is about self-care and the modes of your connection to others - you cannot continue to overextend yourself unnecessarily. when the 5 of disks appears it is because we have stretched our resources too thin. it’s time to reel the line back in and nourish self. this card can also carry an air of anxiety about it that is evidenced through the process of figuring out what exactly to do going forward. one thing is for sure: you will do well by weighing your responsibilities and doing what you must for you and yours. being the sign of the home, you are being moved to specifically attend to matters on this level - very specifically the ancestral. there may be things manifesting within your home environment that are a result of some untended to inner spaces.
the message that resonates most profoundly here is the fact that the signature of 5 deals with Mars on some regards and Venus in others. the Martian aspect of this make you conscious of how to work most inventively with the resources that you have just enough of to make something with. what is most needed here is a way of breaking through moments of anxiety, worry, and stress in order to clear confusion and get to the heart of things. it often helps, when you are feeling like this, to write down whatever you may be worried about. once finished, look at the list and decide what is based in truth and what is based in fear - what gives way to refinement and what perpetuates and illusion. continue to cut down this list by assessing what is something you can actively work to resolve vs. what is something that has yet to even manifest as something to be stressed about. the more you cross out from the list, the more energy you will have to put into the things that should really be guiding your walk at this time. a great affirmation for you at any moment when doubt wants to set in is: i can maneuver in my life with grace and tap into what i need from within me.
a medicine with memory of the ancestors, white oak bark is useful during times when we may experience feeling less than sure of ourselves, perhaps going through waves of confidence and insecurity. white oak bark brings with them a strength to rejuvenate body and spirit. a bark used in remedies to break up congestion in different parts of the body, particularly the respiratory system, this ally (which is found in our formula for Ancient Ways) is meant to ease both our open-heartedness and communication so that we may speak our truth from a place of compassion and assured awareness; the heart knows and white oak bark is ancient medicine to tap into this timeless knowing.
leo rising/sun/moon :: (13) death // agrimony
this time is an invitation for you to be deliberate about releasing efforts that have proven to yield no fruitful results for your purposes. some things are best left to renew themselves for something else. the death card is a generally fear-inducing energy; the concept about what death is has been surrounding with uncertainty and fear of more torment in the beyond, but when approached from a holistic mind frame, we can see “death” as a process essential for the continuation of life. this death energy comes to refresh and revitalize the lifeless by bringing a new perspective. the energy of dying asks us to cut away so that we have space to plant something that will grow with more purpose and rooted intention. you can enter into a discipline that provides you with mental support for doing what has been quite difficult for some time. the demands of the moment are high and invite you to be open to transformation from this shifting frequencies. the Scorpio sign deals very intimately with the process of death and dying, so through this you are learning how to be calm when you are entering into spaces that may not be so familiar and can, in fact, make you feel quite uncomfortable but this is how you are ‘forced’ to create new channel through which to direct your energies, when you have not taken the time to do so.
if the primary matters of life are created by what we think, what we expect and how we feel about things, our deepest emotional urges, our wildest dreams, our highest ideals require a great deal of thinking about, don't they? if not, we stagnate, never determining when a habitual action has run its course, never assessing what is useful, and what is not. so, keeping this in mind, it could be the case that the appearance of the Death card is when there needs to be a re-evaluation of the general patterns of your daily existence; then, you must re-appraise your goals. you'll know if it's that time by measuring how unsettled within yourself you feel. if you feel relatively satisfied and content with what you are doing and receiving, then perhaps it is time to clear the arena on the physical level - creating an environment for more clarity to direct your experiences..
agrimony was chosen for the death card because the flower essence of this card is known to help us become more of our true selves. agrimony clears the way for us to become aware of patterns that inhibit our truth and boost our confidence to speak from a place of lucidity and attunement to our core. agrimony, in medicine, is used to soothe the throat and the stomach. it is a refreshment as a heart tonic which can be used when doing breathwork to deepen the breath. used as a main ingredient in our formula for The World tarot tincture, it is effective as a tool for calling to us more happiness; agrimony is an ally that helps to clear mucus from the lungs and it is known that when we hold grief, it is harder for the body to clear mucus as needed.
virgo rising/sun/moon :: (7) the chariot // parsley
with moons adorning his chariot, the warrior drives triumphantly home. balanced in his disposition, the daylight lights his path - it has been a long night in the depths of the soul. this chariot is driven by powerful and wild creatures who move responsibly in all their liberty. these creatures represent our will, and that fact is reinforced by the focus on the color yellow in this card. the yellow tells us that we are dealing with the solar plexus - the antidote to having spent a great deal of time ungrounded or not attentive to our fundamental needs and requirements. there is a principle that prevails through all this motion - the will functions best when the individual directing it has a grip of their own wholeness. the chariot brings with it a sense of hope and encouragement, cheering us on to climb the heights we wish to climb. as we master opposing factors within ourselves, we bring them and thus ourselves into harmony. this is a card that lends you a great deal of dynamic strength and power. you may have been feeling like you’ve been battling against some insurmountable odds, but it was not long before you realized that this was part of all that you asked for - knowing you, you have been working to be your best and finest. in this sense, the chariot is a signal that you are being afforded much needed relief and rest, a moment to recuperate in the midst of all the commotion. yet and still, you need to establish a great discipline in how you direct what you want to profess. what is the truth you want to share?
a sigh of relief is a feeling that the chariot carries through. with that breath, you are able to speak a more certain word. past imbalances are settling and troubles are coming to an end, you are at a climatic point in your voyage. changes abound here, and something that will seem simple but which will aid you in these times is to pay attention to the detail. life will soon begin to move very fast, faster than its already been proceeding. catch up on the things that you have yet to attend to so that when all of the swift motion really begins, you are able to keep pace with it all; we sense there will be little time for you to catch up on things then. you are merging with your victories in a way that is best aligned with your truths. there is a desquamation of the old and outdated; a shedding of what has long been lingering and looking for a place out. innerstand that the universe recycles all energy in a state of constant refinement - you are not alone.
with all of this potential in mind and heart and with what we know moving through our blood and filling us with poise and tenacity, we invoke parsley to cleanse us. purify our body, our mind, our blood. illuminate our awareness to be able to see what has been, what is, what can be. may we connect the dots. we ask parsley to keep us strong and vital, pulsing with life and curiosity. may we find what we seek. we thank parsley and the plant spirits who surround us, who envelop us with their love, who protect us and themselves so that the future may live, who know enough to change according to what is present, who fill us, who have kept a safe space for us, here, on this earth, since before the moment of our inception, our conception. we open ourselves to being guided by veracity and principles of right speech, right effort, right conduct, right mindfulness, and the livelihood required to keep us in proper stride with our purpose. we give thanks, and we acknowledge the power of which we have only got glimpse, but with discipline and divine grace we can access from within. ashe.
libra rising/sun/moon :: prince of wands // pau d’ arco
somethings are certainly transforming from within you and you are learning how to be more firm with your “no’s” and “yeses”; if you’re not quite there yet, you will surely experience something that will make you aware of the great need for you to be more discerning. your mind is more active in very important ways and you may be feeling enthusiastic about some projects that you have got coming up or have already been working on. the prince of wands come to remind you that patience is a key here because there is a weeding and tending process that you are entering. this points you to use your energy toward harvesting the best by unloading the elements that are not essential to your health. do not be willing to give when you are not being met half-way. the prince of wands can seem abrupt because this prince takes no sh*t, and in all his liveliness, he readily cuts out what is not serving him. in this card, we see a depiction of a man standing upon a carriage directed by a horse. this man, wearing a princely garment, is standing upon a carriage in a field of fire - the ground is covered in flames. at the distance, we note what looks like a sunset and we see a line standing upon a high rock - looking in the same direction that the prince is looking in. this is a loud message - you have all of the support that you need to make it through this moment and there is an aspect that requires you to be what some would consider “selfish”. it is not selfish to work in a self-preserving manner; you’ve still got work to do and need to be intact to be able to do it. the prince of wands prompts you to be extremely meticulous in your actions.
several things to keep in mind here: expect to feel full of life, ready to tackle any challenge. be alert for situations in which you are able to assist somebody else who has need of your strength. also, be aware of how your strength feels to you - this will stand you in good stead on lesser days, when you aren't feeling quite so vital and alive. the force of this spirit is such that you are overcoming any previous self-doubt especially regarding your perceptions about some of the connections in your life. if we allow his force to flow through us, we will find ourselves making excellent progress in everything we turn our hands to. if, when he appears, you are emerging from a tough time in your life, this prince will mark a turning point where things begin to improve and brighten up. one of the key phrases often associated with this card is 'out of darkness, into light'. so seize the day. have fun, get lots done and feel glad to be you at the end of the day.
pau d’ arco is a tree with strength that mirrors that of the prince of wands. guarani indians fashioned their hunting bows out of this tree with intentions to carry forth the tree’s vitality and vigor. pau d’ arco is used as treatment for all sorts of conditions and has been known to help expel parasites from our gastrointestinal system. when feeling doubtful or in need of a boost in energy, invoke pau d’ arco in gratitude for the power to eliminate with is not serving you and call in renewal of strength. the meditation for you in this time is that you may find the ardor and grit to persevere in the face of whatever situation you may find yourself moving through. open up to your own will and direct it at your best interests. more power.
scorpio rising/sun/moon :: 10 of disks // slippery elm
when you see the 10 of disks, you can be sure that you can easily tap in to a wealth of knowledge that comes to you through communion with your ancestral template. sift through and find who your people are and where their strength lies - this may feel like it’s been an ongoing thing for you and that is exactly the point. you, of all the signs, are equipped with the tools to access the past, extract the best of it, and use it to your advantage and for the benefit of posterity. what you are inheriting now will inform the generations to come. the 10 of any suit is also the closing point of any process, but this is not equal to an end - it just means you are graduating from one process and into the progress it affords you. this card is figured by men, women, and a child - one of the men hold a transparent mantle upon which 10 gold plates are drawn in the shape of the kabbalistic tree of life. this says, clearly, that you are accessing much of this “inheritance” from within yourself. you don’t necessary have to sit with one of your elders and ask them questions about your family so that you can get information. if you can do that, though, you should. you may already know a lot of the family stories which are infused with hints as to the talents, gifts, and potential that your bloodline holds. another meaningful directive of the 10 of disks is that you ought to let your gifts show so that it can be more actively manifest in your outer experience. the time of harvest is also the time of sharing.
working with the medicine that accompanies the 10 of disks, you can enter into knowledge regarding how critical to life it is for humans to invest in higher order thinking activities. with the idea of the disks come the processes of dealing more directly with the material world, but having moved through a series of lessons in the suit of disks (from 1-9), it is evident that the stability of resources provides us with more space to actually work on the inner refinement operations. this is smoothing out of the inner territory; you are doing landscaping on an intimate level. clearing through any old muck will surely have you well-prepared for that transit of Venus into Scorpio. for many of you, this is also your natal Venus position which even speaks more directly about the fact that you got some work to do so that you will not feel overwhelmed when the load picks up weight and the developments pick up speed. we trust that you will do what you must and do what is right.
slippery elm offers an effortless purging of any disorder that could be afflicting us. this is especially true on a metaphysical level. slippery elm is high in nutritional content, making it effective as a daily tonic useful in nourishing us. rich in mucilage, it softens any mucus in the body and helps to push it out in various ways. keeping this in mind, we invite the love of slippery elm to coat us with fluidity in transitions and tranquility of heart. may slippery elm remind us of the aqueous nature which can move through even the sturdiest and seemingly unmovable of conflicts. may we resolve all that calls for resolution from the inside out. may agility and dexterity be the qualities we adopt in communion with slippery elm, and may we be lifted by the knowledge of our past and finding purpose in it all, enough to propel us in finding a better way for ourselves. in love and truth - power.
sagittarius rising/sun/moon :: 2 of wands // hawthorn
not everybody is going to agree or be willing to accept and support what you have in mind; that’s okay and actually necessary. use that as fuel to go even harder, as they say. this month is meant to show you exactly why it is important for you to stick with your decision on the direction your life is to take. nobody can do this for you - it has been a constant message in different ways. the beautiful thing about all of this is that though you find yourself having to be more assertive, you have the guidance of the 2 of wands to help you through it. when the 2 of wands makes an appearance in our lives, we are being asked to consider our personal liberty for choice in life because this relates to the ways in which we live in accordance to our will, and the consequent result of that. the 2 of wands indicates that we are in charge of the way that our lives are unfolding, and that this happens in the fashion we had anticipated. it does not rule out the occasional surprise nor obstacle, but it does promise us that we are in a state of mind which allows us to fulfill our needs and follow our self-determined destiny. events take place in an ordered fashion and this is when we have followed our knowing of self above all doubt projected by others. things soon begin to unfold around us the way that we want them to.
the fact of the matter is that this is a natural state for a healthy human being. the fact that we have to struggle so hard to achieve it, and then maintain it, is more a comment on the type of life we lead, than anything else. when we can bring ourselves in harmony with the forces of our universe, achieving our dreams becomes far more possible than at any other time. we attain harmony when we are centered and at ease with ourselves. careful planning is always important when this card comes up - again there is a need to order our future so that we know where we're headed. and it's also important to reconcile any uncertainty or confusion generated within us. both of these actions will ensure that nothing interferes with the flow of our own will out into the universe.
hawthorn was designated as perfect to pair with the 2 of wands because hawthorn heals not only our heart, but also our will by way of toning our digestive system, and the 2 of wands is a card of courage - or corazon, the heart. hawthorn is a plant whose flower, leaves, berries, and roots are all essential as different forms of medicine. in flower essence form, hawthorn serves as a beckon of hope during times when we feel heartbroken or in the center of the winter season, when we may feel as if we yearn for a sunnier day. when taken as an infusion, hawthorn brings vital nutrient and minerals into our bodies, all the while alleviating and stress that is causing our cardiovascular and digestive systems disharmony. taken as a tincture or cordial, hawthorn does all of the above and for that very reason we have added to our potion for Keeper of the Flame - this is the one who keeps the eternal flame of love alive within, above, through, and deep.
capricorn rising/sun/moon :: (10) the wheel of fortune // bay leaf
the wheel of fortune is numbered 10 and is depicted as a great wheel. this wheel is turning for all eternity. there are creatures on the wheel - heads of animals and bodies of humans - some are falling off to be crushed, some are struggling to stay on, while a solitary figure makes no attempt to maintain its position but succeeds anyway. fortune is not the same as luck - we make our own luck and follow our own destiny. good fortune comes from the still center which contains the very heart of ourselves. the seasons will continue to wheel, the sun will rise and set, the planets will move in their allotted courses - with or without us. if we struggle against the flow of life, we become those struggling to ascend the wheel, or even one of those crushed beneath it. however, if we realize our own power to create a beneficial future and then trust in that vision, we soon become the still figure, master of our own universe. as the wheel of life turns, and we struggle to get to grips with it, gradually we learn the trick of getting things to go our way. often we interpret this as luck - though we each make our own luck in life - good and bad. fortune holds the secret of learning to harness the positive/active forces in life and to turn these to our advantage. with the negative/receptive forces, we gather the knowledge needed to do all of this wisely.
the very first thing we have to accept is that what we send out is what we get back - its form may be slightly altered, but it remains the fruit of our initial seeding thought. the next thing we have to accept is that good fortune is limitless - you don't take it from somebody else by receiving it yourself. there's more than enough abundance to go around in this universe. and finally, you have to open yourself to receive your share. often we don't like to do this, for fear of disappointment or disillusionment. if we put our hopes on something and it doesn't materialize, does that mean we aren't 'good enough'? rather than face that dichotomy, we often shut our minds altogether, with the result that we don't get the things we want and need. a month day ruled by the wheel card is one in which miracles should happen. it’s a time to wish with all your heart for the things you need, and then trust that as they fly out into the universe they take shape, and prepare to return to you. be open for opportunities and the rearranging of things - this is bound to happen with the appearance of the wheel of fortune.
when the time is charged with the possibility for you to get what you are wishing for (and be careful and specific about what you are wishing), bay leaf is more than an adequate plant guide upon this road. bay leaf is a wish herb - it is said that if you take 3 bay leaves and write your wishes on them on the night of the full moon, your wishes will materialize within 3-9 months. (hint: the full moon in taurus is a particularly auspicious time to do this kind of work). bay leaves are also great for healing our digestive tracts and helping to clear out any toxins from the blood and the colon. Mama Drops is a formula inspired by one of the traditional herbal tonics of the Dominican Republic, and bay leaves are used in this one because of its ability to strengthen anything that employs its use.
aquarius rising/sun/moon :: ace of disks // eyebright
you are simultaneously existing at the end and the beginning, and this, ultimately, is the continuum. the ace of disks is about new beginnings in the areas regarding the material plane, but this did not come without some internal battle. you have spent some time revisiting the past. since the shift of uranus into taurus, you have been getting VERY intimate with the wounds in your family and ancestry. you have come to the realization about the fact that you are probably the only person in your family who is willing and able to do the work of rewriting the story of your personal timeline. coming to terms with all of this, you now find yourself in a place of uprooting old paradigms and setting a foundation for how you want your home to be. this is about creating a new way of living and maybe even raising your own seeds. you are known to be a very inventive and innovative person and this is a great time to bring that quality into the ways in which you are reorganizing your life. the ace of disks deals primarily with human development, and right now what is highlighted is how your development has been informed by the environment (nurture and nature) you found yourself in as you grew into the point where you find yourself now. having contended with these truths, you can be more calm and assured about what you are moving into. the ace of disks also marks, on the everyday level, the start of a new project, which is likely to be successful. so it will come up to show a new job, or a new business venture, or something which has inspired you to begin things in a way that is not traditional or common based on what you’ve known. usually this will be the sort of project that seems to continuously keep on growing, with each level of attainment producing - almost of itself - the next step in the journey.
sometimes the Ace will come up to indicate a sudden change of material fortune, or a windfall - though either of these would have to be quite substantial to invoke the ace. aces are always big influences, marking the beginning of something new and important. so if we see the card coming up to represent a sudden input of funds, expect this to cause major changes your life. on a more spiritual level, this card relates to the earth and our home, and to the appreciation of nature and natural law. it might mark a period where we draw closer to environmental issues, or where we engage in a period of study, contemplation and alignment with earth forces and our ancestral roots. one thing that we often miss, when considering spiritual development, is the way that each development grows out of the last. anyone who has been involved in the search for spiritual truth will already have experienced the weirdly coincidental manner in which spiritual opportunities and teachers present themselves at the relevant stage in our growth. there's a saying - 'the right teacher only appears when the student is ready'. it is as though we grow spiritually from the inside, the same way that trees do. and in so doing, maybe we develop inner rings - just like a tree's trunk. the outer ring, just under the bark could not exist without all of the others it encircles. the ace of disks is here to bring us back home, in more ways than one, and warns us against trying to skip any of the steps in these developments.
we turn to the ancestors of the forest to illuminate our sight. eyebright is a plant ally that is currently endangered due to over-harvesting and environmental damage. with this in mind, we enter into a space of meditation and invoke growth and development throughout the land for the ally that is eyebright. may you return to balance and find the nutrition you need to be in abundance, deep in the crevices of the earth. may your power to heal our sight be used as a power which heals the sight of those who may have at one time been mindless in their use of you. may we all be able to perceive the truth with greater clarity - getting grounded and clear about what is present, what is here. may we know how to use all of our resources wisely so that our foundations and creations are not harmful to other life around us. may all of what is vital life return to a state of integrity and completion, propagating medicine in all its forms for the future that is already being creating. ashe.
pisces rising/sun/moon :: (8) strength // nettle
the strength card is a luminous illustration of a being in their power through the balancing of polarities within themselves. this is the card which gives us the strength and nourishment we need to get through. we see sekhmet, holding an ankh and a staff; a lion sits at her feet, and a serpent sits near the lions chest, representing the ascent of the kundalini into the higher aspects of the self. there is no sense of competition between the two. here we see the literal meaning of the card - standing tall and sure, relying upon our own experiences and quick-wittedness to see us through. this card is primarily about having a fascination and enthusiasm with the whole life process - delighting in the moment, observing both your surroundings and yourself on a minute by minute basis, engaging with life to the best of your abilities, and doing all of this with the composure of one who has mastered one and many lessons. we can often get distracted from taking proper notice of life. if we are worried, busy, stressed, rushed, it becomes all too easy to forget that our very existence is a miracle. we stop noticing beauty or joy; we lose our ability to be both delighted and surprised at life. and this is a shame, for life can become a constant and ever-changing flow of miracles, excitement, and exhilaration. All that is required here is that we agree to allow it and then pay right attention.
right attention is a challenging skill to develop, but the effort invested pays enormous dividends once you have practiced enough for this to become a habit. it means placing your attention in the moment, and then holding it there. by doing this you become infinitely aware, seeing, hearing and feeling things that would have otherwise slipped by unnoticed. that is a strength in itself. during this month ruled by the strength card, we must learn to work at our ability to pay attention to and enjoy life. try this exercise - it will take about ten minutes (or more if you want it to): sit down somewhere comfortably. smooth and calm your breathing. now first pay attention to your body - what does it tell you? once you have attended to its needs, spread your attention out further. deliberately engage one sense at a time. what do you see? look in every detail - you know you've got it right when you notice things you didn't know were there before. now add your auditory sense - what do you hear? listen intently. again when you hear things you would not normally register, you're doing well. what do you feel? see this as both a physical 'feel' and an emotional 'feel', then separate the two. what can you taste? how does your mouth feel? what do you smell? can you unwind the different scents in the air? now put all of that together and trying doing all five things at once! when you've mastered that one, you can always throw in the final sense - what are you hearing at the psychic level? what do you feel of the unseen dimension beyond the one in which you now sit? keep refining the strength of your senses as this tool enables you to access senses beyond the 5 we initially learn about.
to awaken your psychic ability further, nettle lends its energy for use as a fortifying elemental. nettle, rich in micro-nutrients and vitals, pierces all veils, and especially the ones we have placed upon ourselves, with its stinging hairs. enjoying a cup of nettle infusion, sit in meditation with these thoughts: may the lessons learned serve as a sharpening tool for your abilities. may they edify the structures that you will build from here on out. may you see perfection in the divine plan that you are co-creating. may all that is not moving in the direction that you have determined, be oriented to serve a greater good in this movement. may you be resilient in trying times. let there be more abundance and less worry, more wisdom and less mistakes, more grace and less resistance. may you be shielded from all that causes you imbalance and harm. may you come to recognize those factors as the teachers that they are. more power.
