the story:

No matter how many times you have seen a flower, there is nothing like the energy of renewal that the sight of new growth brings in the spring. There is an element of readiness present as the skies begin to warm with the frequency of the sun more pronounced, again. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is the season aligned with the element of wood — solid yet supple, able to grow and spread. This season is also connected to the organs of the liver and the gallbladder, and for this reason, within this season, we attend to these organs to maximize the efficiency and healing power of what our body is doing at that time of the year. It is also true that within a single month, or even a single week or day, we experience all of the 4 seasons on a microcosmic level, so this potion is meant to hold us through the moment to moment renewal into spring that we each experience. The Way of Flowers teach us about flow; it reminds us to be confident and decisive, sure of who we are and are becoming in each moment. The Way of Flowers is one we become attuned to through observation of the patterns of nature at this time of year. We witness constant change and the unveiling of potential from the seed contained within. We learn about the bounty that a still and quiet winter has afforded us. It is through learning the Way of Flowers that we begin to channel forth the beauty and medicine held deep inside. It is known that the medicine contained within the flower of a plant is most concentrated in its blooming, most potent, and through this we are educated on the myriad possibilities of offerings that come with our unraveling. This spring elixir holds activation notes for our journey and provides us with sign posts that say “keep going” as we move along our voyage. Encoded with herbs effective for liver health, this formula is one meant to enhance the movement of inner tides, creating a smooth, even movement of chi and blood throughout the body. Like the spring often sets the tone for a year, the liver is directly related to the health of the entire body. To ensure proper reproductive function, the liver is responsible for manufacturing a good amount of the precursors to proper hormonal production. The herbs used here are particularly stimulating to the liver, a benefit accentuated by the final slightly sour taste of the formula — sour being particularly activating and healing to liver function. Schizandra berries is commonly known as the five flavors herb (or wu wei tza), with that sour taste coming to the forefront in all preparations involving a good amount of this berry. Schizandra is known to regulate fluid in the body while also promoting tranquility in the mind. This fruit emerged from a flower reminds us of the power of elegance as evidenced through patience. Schizandra is a fruit who only comes forth when there is both a male and female plant present, hinting at the necessity for a certain kind of balance and the ability of this plant to express their being in a variety of ways. Wu Wei Tza was thus favored in China by the emperors and people of the wealthy royal classes, and there was a practice of using this berry for 100 days straight to rejuvenate the kidneys (especially the sexual energy), brighten the mind, purify the blood, and clarify the skin. Combining these properties with the qualities of Rose hips and Elderberries provides not only a healer for the skin through their unified Vitamin C content, but also a boost to immunity and overall longevity of the organism. Rose hips are particularly effective for all deficiency of the kidneys which can manifest as lower back pains, muscle fatigue and ache, weak pulse, loose stools, and a number of other conditions. Rose hips bring a sort of lifting of the energies which soon put the radiance back in the eyes of those who may have otherwise lacked the luster of its once shimmering. Elderberries and Elderflowers, known for their immune fortifying potential, are also effective for skin care while serving to heal the liver — this alone makes them ideal for teenagers and those going through puberty who may be more prone to acne and other such outbreaks. They are also useful for detoxifying from cold and flu. Calendula flowers, Roses, and Red Clover blossoms are the other accomplices who come to remind us of the power of flowers and flowering. In essence form they each work in various ways — Calendula aids in helping us find our voice and reminding us of our innermost truths. They helps us to cultivate empathy and be more graceful and compassionate in our communications. This is an essence for relations, guiding us into community again after the winter may have had us a bit more isolated. Rose essence highlights our true essence and core nature — it guides us forward to who we have always been and compels us to act on purpose and without fear. Red Clover blossoms help to raise our vibratory frequency, both within the subtle energetic body and throughout our biochemistry. Red Clover essence is one that helps to transmute emotional wounds into the lessons and spaces where the light can shine through. The combination of these essences make us aware of the brilliance within us, like a flower waiting for the perfect time to bloom and showcase their full beauty. Medicinally, each of these is also effective for liver health, while serving as healers of both the heart and throat chakras. Calendula, with their gentle mucilage, soothing irritations of the lungs and throat, all the while working their way into the womb and reproductive spaces, providing relief as needed. Rose, with a high vibration of love, leading the heart to the place where it can be open and still remain protected, strong and still remain sensitive. Red Clover, a blossom which grows even in concrete jungles which is where I first encountered them, resonating as a spiral dance gracefully touching upon our bodies, surely escorting us into forward movement so that we may live again, uninterrupted by the shadows of memories that have been meaning to be transmuted. The Way of Flowers is one for the shapeshifters, those unafraid of evolution and willing to shine without concern of who it may offend, yet with the mindfulness that we all grow and bloom at our own pace.
