Bibliomancy is the act of using books for divination; the word is derived from the Greek words biblio for book and manteia for divination.
Books have long been regarded as sources of divine guidance and are in many ways consulted when one is seeking direction and clarity. Doing this offers us something to think and feel through. It is with this in mind that I have created the club.
The Bibliomancy Book Club was initially launched in 2019 as a container for book lovers everywhere. It is ideal for folks who may be too busy to follow along with a more structured book club. Bibliomancy Book Club is for those who experience reading and research as leisure and who get a sense that books and the written word function as talisman and amulet — protective and strengthening relics. In the Bibliomancy Book Club, we read to each other and spend time conversing about our feelings, thoughts, ideas, and inspirations. It is a highly recommended space for folks who are interested in decolonial inquiry & research methods.
We are relaunching again in 2026 and are open to anybody who would like to participate.
Gatherings occur virtually via Zoom once a month and last approximately 2 hours.
Our April 2026 Bibliomancy Book Club meeting will be held on Sunday, April 12 at 7pm EST.
The theme for April is right relationship, a concept central to many indigenous communities.
